December 18th: Goodbye Hawaiʻi Voyager Catalog

December 5, 2019 by Wayde Oshiro | 0 comments

On December 18, 2019, the University of Hawaiʻi System Libraries will retire Hawaiʻi Voyager, our online catalog and library management system since 2000. Technology has advanced in the last 19 years and it is now time to bid farewell to our reliable but dated catalog and back-end system.

The Hawaiʻi Voyager online catalog will be replaced by a cloud-based discovery platform called Primo that will offer users single-point access to most of the library’s print and electronic resources. Primo will look familiar to you if you have used the search box on our library homepage. We have offered a version of Primo called OneSearch since 2016.

The new Primo will have a similar look and functionality to OneSearch, but there will be some differences in the terminology used and the placement of menu items and functions. While Leeward has the ability to customize the search interface, we are coordinating with the other UH Libraries to define a standard for a basic look and feel for Primo across the UH system.

With Primo, users will be able to search for physical and electronic books, journals, videos and more from a single search portal. Most users of the Voyager online catalog will not have to do anything to prepare for the migration. All patron information, loaned items, and fines/fees will migrate to the new system. An exception to this is if you use the My List function in Voyager. Personal lists of items will not migrate to Primo. Please export your lists by December 16.

The library will provide additional updates as we draw closer to the December 18th migration. Librarians and staff will offer workshops and develop guides and other resources to assist you with this transition. Please feel free to contact me with questions and feedback.
